Understanding Chiropractic
Q: What is Chiropractic?
A: Chiropractic is a widely utilized therapy used to treat a variety of conditions that involve muscle, joint and nerve pain. Chiropractic treatments commonly involve adjusting a particular region of your body to help ease tension, stiffness and pain. There are many different techniques that are used to gently align your body thus reducing or eliminating your aches and pains.
Q: What does a Chiropractor Do?
A: Doctors of Chiropractic are specially trained to analyze and detect your spine for misalignment called subluxations. Chiropractors remove these subluxations using gentle chiropractic adjustment techniques thus freeing you from these stressful distortions. Chiropractors are also trained to prescribe therapeutic exercise, provide nutritional counseling and recommend rehabilitation and injury prevention strategies.
Q: What is a Subluxation?
A: The goal of the doctor of chiropractic is to awaken your own natural healing ability by correcting subluxations. A subluxation is a distortion or misalignment in your body that irritates your nervous system resulting in overall aches and pains, stiffness and tension. In advanced and more severe cases, weakness, numbness and tingling into the arms or legs are experienced. Subluxations affect the health of your nerves, ligaments, discs and joints; weaken your muscles and alter the energy that flows from your brain and nerves to all parts of your body. By correcting subluxations we promote natural healing, vitality, strength and health.
Subluxations are often painless. Only a chiropractic examination can detect subluxations. And only chiropractic adjustments can reduce their effect to your nervous system, naturally.
Q: How do I know If I have Subluxation?
A: A body with subluxations may be characterized by bad posture, tight and tense muscles, headaches and migraines, stiff achy joints, “pinched” nerves, bone and disc degeneration (arthritis), lowered resistance to disease, fatigue and overall body malfunction. This state is also called dis-ease, meaning “general lowered health.” When a person has dis-ease, they can fall prey to all kinds of diseases and health conditions. To make things more complicated, subluxations may be painless; you may have many in your body for years before you begin to feel their destructive effects.

Q: How did I get Subluxation?
A: Subluxations are caused by accidents, falls, sports injuries, birth stress and other trauma or by bad posture or even by emotional stress. Many subluxations are the result of what we do at work. Maybe you sit all day in front of the computer or you do heavy lifting or you just work long hours. Whatever you do, subluxations may be present and can be the source of your discomfort.
Q: What is an Adjustment?
A:An adjustment is a highly skilled and precise movement usually applied by hand or instrument to a joint of the body. Adjustments loosen the joints to restore proper movement and optimize function. When a joint is adjusted, a gas bubble may release causing a popping noise you may have heard about or you may feel a light tapping sensation. Either way, it is a gentle pain-free experience.
